Best yet Christmas!

What can we say about having Christmas at home, just the three of us? It was splendid. Wonderful. Selfish? Delightful. Relaxing. Fun. Unforgettable. Perfect. It really was perfect.

I'm so very glad that I did all the cooking on Christmas Eve day. We had a fantastic meal mid-day on Christmas Eve before we headed off to church and then we had amazing left overs for dinner and meals on Christmas day. How nice it was not to fuss on Christmas. Not to be on schedule, not to rush, etc. It really was nice to live the day on our terms. Dare I say we did stayed in pajamas the whole day? True story. Play, eat, play, play, play, eat. (Personally, I would have squeezed a nap in there somewhere but Evan was anxious to try every new thing all day long and we were happy to oblige.)

Santa brought Evan a helicopter rescue set. He was thrilled and said it was exactly what he wanted. (Although he never asked for it.)

Santa just knew he would love it. Evan told me yesterday, "I really am enjoying playing with this!" I told him, "Santa knew you would!"

And, there's that one gift that Santa hid and Evan found just a little bit later. A remote control indoor helicopter. The picture does say it all. It says what being six at Christmas is all about!

Evan and Daddy practice flying this little chopper. Pretty neat to watch! It brings lots of smiles.

Mr. Arts - n Crafts was quick to get busy using the ink pads and fingerprint art book from Papa. Evan also did about 20 Spin Art designs that we are turning into "thank you notes." He really loves to create!

Like a true artist, it takes concentration selecting the right brush and mixing just the right colors.

THIS was a gift from Uncle Chad and Aunt Karen. THIS was in the BIG BOX that Evan opened on Christmas Eve. It wasn't assembled of course. The directions said, "This is to be built with an adult and to allow 4-6 hours for completion." Funny how Uncle Chad gives this to Evan when he is nowhere to be found! So Mark and I began construction on Marble Mania on Christmas Eve and did spend another 4 + hours on Christmas day building it. We call it bonding. Actually we had fun doing it and occasionally Evan would come over to assist, but really, he was too busy being busy with everything else he got.
It really is pretty cool. Battery operated gears move marbles up and then they wind down various and alternating chutes and then it starts all over again. Bells and whistles. We'll keep it assembled for a good long time!

On the 26th we went out to make some exchanges, etc, and found ourselves at a sporting goods shop. Evan spotted some Rollerblades and in a big man size and wanted to try it on. Then we asked if he would like to try on ones in his size. We were happy to see he had the interest and the desire to spend his own Christmas money from Aunt Kathy and Aunt Pat to buy them. He got used to his scooter in the house last year, just a little indoor confidence is all he needed for that. We figured the same was a good idea this year for the skates. Today, the practice was on the carpet, tomorrow...we'll see where he goes!
Oh yes, he's all legs, just like his daddy. I think his ankle and his thigh are about the same circumference. (He likes to have his pants off at home, but we wanted to keep his Thomas the Train underwear covered!) he looked like a baby giraffe trying to walk for the first time when he tried to get up off the carpet on his own. Wobbly, and ALL legs.
